If you spent any time scrolling this month, you probably noticed that the vibe on social media has completely shifted. June 2026 was the month we collectively decided to stop taking ourselves so seriously online. The hyper-curated, perfectly aesthetic feeds are out, and messy, relatable, self-aware content is officially in.
As someone who creates content for a living, keeping up with the algorithm can feel like a full-time job. But honestly? The trends this month were actually fun. Here is my June recap of the top social media trends and fads that took over our feeds.
1. The “Stretched Word” Carousel

Instagram carousels made a massive comeback this month, but with a twist. The “Stretched Word” trend involves taking a single word or phrase and stretching it across 5 to 10 slides. You literally have to swipe through the entire carousel to read the punchline.
It’s brilliant for engagement because it forces people to swipe, but it’s also just visually really cool. I’ve been using this format to share my weekly photo dumps, and the engagement has been insane. If you’re trying to grow your Instagram right now, you need to be posting carousels.
2. The “Sketch to Outfit” Transition

This was hands-down my favorite fashion trend on TikTok this month. Creators start the video by showing a rough, messy sketch of an outfit in a notebook, and then the beat drops and it transitions to them wearing the exact outfit in real life.
It’s so creative and shows how much thought goes into styling. I actually bought a dedicated Moleskine Sketchbook just to start planning my outfits this way. It makes getting dressed feel like an art project rather than a chore.
3. The “No Screen” Paradox

The irony of this trend is not lost on me: people are going viral on social media by posting about how much time they spend off social media. The “No Screen” trend involves romanticizing your offline life—reading physical books, going for walks without headphones, and leaving your phone in another room.
I think we are all just craving a digital detox. I’ve started implementing “no screen Sundays,” and to help with the eye strain during the week, I finally invested in a good pair of Blue Light Blocking Glasses. It has made a world of difference for my headaches.
4. “Self-Aware” Content

The fourth wall has officially been broken. Creators are no longer pretending that their lives are perfectly candid. The biggest trend right now is being hyper-aware of the fact that you are making content. Videos showing the awkward behind-the-scenes setup—like balancing your Phone Tripod on a stack of books or wearing a Wireless Microphone clipped to your pajamas—are performing better than the polished final product.
People want authenticity. They want to know that you’re a real person behind the screen, and I love that we’re finally embracing the messy reality of content creation.
