Luxury skincare is at its best when it makes a small routine feel more considered—not when it convinces us that a beautiful jar is a personality. These five products cover distinct jobs: cleanse, prep, treat, moisturize, and protect. They are not inherently “better” because their labels are expensive.

What makes a luxury pick worth considering
For me, the case for prestige skincare is texture, formulation preferences, and the pleasure of using something you look forward to—not miraculous-results promises. A product can be thoughtfully formulated and still be wrong for your skin, while a simpler product can work brilliantly. Start with the role that feels missing, then add one thing at a time.
Amazon changes quickly, so these are deliberately Amazon search links, not permanent “buy now” buttons. Before checking out, confirm the exact product, size, condition, and current Sold by field against the brand’s official product page and any current authorized-retailer guidance it provides. That extra minute is especially sensible with prestige beauty.
The five I’d put on a deliberate shortlist
Tatcha The Rice Wash Soft Cream Cleanser
This is the soft, creamy cleanser for someone whose skin dislikes the stripped feeling some foaming washes leave behind. Tatcha describes a pH-neutral amino-acid base with Japanese rice powder, hyaluronic acid, and red algae, and positions it for all skin types; the official Tatcha formula and directions are to foam with water, massage, and rinse. [1] Consider it if cleansing ritual matters to you and you lean normal, combination, or dry.
The important qualifier: the ingredient list includes fragrance and fragrant citrus and lavender oils. I would skip it if fragrance is a known problem for your skin, no matter how elegant the texture sounds. Amazon search: Tatcha The Rice Wash
SK-II PITERA™ Facial Treatment Essence
An essence is optional, but this is the classic “prep” layer for someone who enjoys a very light liquid between cleansing and serum. SK-II says its Facial Treatment Essence is more than 90% PITERA™, its proprietary galactomyces ferment filtrate, and lists normal, dry, oily, and combination skin among the suitable types. The brand advises pressing two or three shakes into the face and neck after cleansing, before serum or moisturizer. Read the SK-II product directions and ingredients [2]
This is not a substitute for moisturizer or sunscreen. Think of it as an extra hydration-and-texture step only if you like that format and your budget has room for it. Amazon search: SK-II Facial Treatment Essence
Estée Lauder Advanced Night Repair Serum Synchronized Multi-Recovery Complex
If I were choosing a single treatment layer from this list, I would shortlist this serum rather than chase a dozen actives at once. Estée Lauder identifies hyaluronic acid, antioxidants, amino acids, probiotics, and its Chronolux™ Power Signal Technology; its instructions are one dropper over clean face and neck before eye cream and moisturizer. See Estée Lauder’s Advanced Night Repair guidance [3]
It makes the most sense for someone who wants a hydration-focused serum that can sit between an essence and cream. It is not an excuse to pile it on top of every other treatment. Keep the rest of the routine calm enough to notice whether it agrees with you. Amazon search: Estée Lauder Advanced Night Repair Serum
Augustinus Bader The Rich Cream
This is the splurge moisturizer for skin that craves a more cushioning finish, particularly in cold or dry weather. Augustinus Bader calls The Rich Cream ideal for normal-to-dry skin and highlights TFC8®, evening primrose oil, hyaluronic acid, and vitamin E. The brand also describes the formula as fragrance-free, non-comedogenic, and free of mineral oil, parabens, and sulfates. Read The Rich Cream’s official formula details [4]
Two pumps morning and evening is the brand’s application guidance, but there is no prize for using a rich cream twice daily if your skin feels overloaded. I would steer oily or humid-climate skin toward a lighter moisturizer instead; luxury should feel comfortable, not like a coating. Amazon search: Augustinus Bader The Rich Cream
Shiseido Ultimate Sun Protector Lotion SPF 60+
The most practical luxury item here is the daytime final step. Shiseido’s Ultimate Sun Protector Lotion is a face-and-body, broad-spectrum SPF 60+ formula for all skin types with 80-minute water and sweat resistance. Its official directions are to shake well, apply liberally 15 minutes before sun exposure, and reapply at least every two hours—plus after swimming, sweating, or towel drying. See Shiseido’s SPF 60+ directions [5] That aligns with the American Academy of Dermatology’s sunscreen guidance: broad-spectrum, water-resistant SPF 30 or higher, applied generously and reapplied outdoors. [6]
The lotion is an appealing choice for active days if you like an invisible, lightweight finish. Still, its ingredient list includes alcohol denat. and fragrance, so sensitive or eye-sting-prone skin deserves a cautious first try. Amazon search: Shiseido Ultimate Sun Protector Lotion SPF 60+
A realistic way to use this edit
You absolutely do not need all five. In the morning, a simple version is cleanser if you need it, then the SK-II essence or Estée Lauder serum if you are using one, moisturizer if your skin wants it, and Shiseido SPF last. At night, sunscreen comes off first; follow with cleanser, essence if desired, serum, then moisturizer.
The first two purchases I would prioritize are a cleanser you tolerate and a sunscreen you will apply generously. Add the serum for hydration, the Rich Cream for drier-skin comfort, or the essence because you enjoy that featherweight step—not because a routine looks incomplete without it.
New skincare deserves patience. The American Academy of Dermatology recommends testing a new product on a small area twice daily for seven to 10 days before adding it fully, and washing it off and stopping use if a reaction develops. Read the AAD’s skincare testing guidance [7] That is a far more useful luxury habit than buying a whole lineup at once.
